Dr. Strangelove

Love an apocalypse-sized plot? This one’s for you. Stanley Kubrick's classic 1964 black comedy movie Dr. Strangelove is going to open on stage in the West End in 2024. The movie is frequently described as one of the greatest films of all time, nominated for four Academy Awards along with nominations for a total of seven BAFTA Awards. The venue for this world stage premiere is to be confirmed, as are the cast, creatives, and dates. For now, simply know that BAFTA and Emmy Award winner Armando Iannucci and Olivier Award winner Sean Foley have collaborated to bring Kubrick's dark comedy satire about a nuclear attack to the stage, and the signs are all pointing towards a monster theatreland hit.

The plot? An unhinged United States Air Force general has arranged a pre-emptive nuclear attack on the USSR. The story follows the US President, his advisors, the Joint Chiefs of Staff and a Royal Air Force exchange officer as they desperately try to stop the B-52 bomber’s crew from nuking the Soviet Union and potentially kicking off a full-scale nuclear war. This plot is perfect for our times, populated with enormous egos and describing a world where the power-crazed few hold the future of all of us in their grubby hands. It’s going to be horribly hilarious, and we can’t wait to offer you a fabulous choice of good quality cheap Dr Strangelove tickets!

Hilarious show completely relevant for our times
A timely piece of theatre. It was a hoot but also frightening in this current era, where out of control madmen appear to be in charge (or may soon be so) of so many countries. Lots of whizz-bang effects and “smoke”. Steve Coogan was great in all the parts he played.
