Cyrano de Bergerac

We chose this event because we enjoy this story of Cyrano. However, we felt the base of the storyline was altered too much. This detracted from our enjoyment of the play. The realities of the historical context were ignored! The character of Roxanne was adapted in an unpleasant way. Absotutely no need to engage the audience in swearing and foul language! Thus, not appropriate for children.

A modern take on a classic, brilliantly realised.

I laughed, I cried, and I am certain that I missed nuances packed into this tour de force. Recommend that you purchase the program for 5 pounds because it provides insight into this exceptional collaborative effort.

Decades swerving what I imagined was a grotesque farce, I totally loved this version of 'Cyrano'!. It is pure finesse and the storyline of 'the love that cannot declare its name' is so arresting and ultimately heart-wrenching. There's a gorgeous poetry and humour to the new modern dialogues, the acting is stellar, everyone has such range of expression. Echoes of 'Remains of the Day'..?

We were travelling on a really hot day so were delighted that the air-conditioning was perfectly set for comfort. The play was engaging from the outset, although some of the dialogue from around the theatre was hard to follow. Adrian Lester’s delivery of such a wordy part was faultless. The contrast between the first and second acts was very effective and the war scenes were imaginatively presented. The musicians were excellent and their timed appearances were very amusing. The sword fights were brilliantly choreographed and executed with split second timing. The role of Small Boy was interesting and gave a great opportunity for young actors.

Great show and cast, good use of the theatre for dramatic affect. Brilliant.

Great adaptation of the classic Cyrano story with a modern twist and excellent acting performances .

The acting was superb and the setting was excellently designed. Overall the production was exceptional.

Being in the royal circle we were at entrance level from the foyer so less steps which was good as one guest had a troubling knee! From the outset that was an Energy and laughter, which only increased as the tale unwound. All performers were able to be clearly heard and held their characters AND for a story that is so old, many of the triggers are as current now as they were when first put on paper.

Adrian Lester was great. I love the acting, and sword fights but owing to hearing difficulties it was not so easy for me to follow. Lots of words! The personal induction loop which was lent to me was not as good as my hearing aids.

A long but engaging play. First half was about an hour and a half, so make sure you go to the toilets before hand!

Re-imagined for today this is a tour de force of language delivered by a brilliant cast. In a mix a humour, comment and sadness you are engaged for the whole piece.

Excellent throughout it’s got a lot of swearing but you are pre warned so should not be offended

Not like the original story. Too modern and needs to be in the era, costumes and colour.

Wonderful show. All the actors were excellent, not just McAvoy - who was superb! Loved the modern direction of this performance- unique take on this wonderful story. Just go see it!

The outstanding performance by James McAvoy who was fast , clever , witty and energetic - the supporting cast were good too
